South Lamar Corridor Improvements
The City of Austin is investing approximately $36 million from the 2016 Mobility Bond on improvements to South Lamar Boulevard between Riverside Drive and US 290. The City expects this to reduce vehicular delay, improve the effectiveness of transit, create continuous ADA-compliant sidewalks and continuous bicycle facilities along the entire length of the corridor. Phase I Construction - Riverside Drive to Barton Springs Road
Permitting is currently underway. If environmental clearance is received, construction is anticipated from Winter 2020 - Fall 2022. The current preliminary plan below differs somewhat from the 27 Sep 2018 preliminary plans.

Preliminary plans for September 27, 2018 include the following key elements:
- Signaled Intersection Changes
- Eliminate dedicated right turn lane on NB South Lamar Blvd at Riverside Drive
- Add dual left turn lanes to SB South Lamar Blvd at Barton Springs Rd
- Eliminate left turn lane (i.e., no left turn) from WB West Mary St to South Lamar Blvd and divert to Evergreen Ave
- Elimination of separate angled right turn to West Mary St from NB South Lamar Blvd
- Eliminate left turn lane (i.e., no left turn) from NB Bluebonnet Ln to South Lamar Blvd and divert to Del Curto Rd
- New Signals
- Collier St/Evergreen Ave (current left turns onto South Lamar Blvd from WB West Mary will be diverted to here)
- Del Curto Rd (current left turns onto from NB Bluebonnet to SB(WB) Lamar will be diverted to here)
- New Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons
- Between Lamar Square Dr and Collier St at the Post Apartments
- At Dickson Rd
- Other Notable Changes
- Eliminate third lane (current right lane) on NB South Lamar between Barton Springs Rd and Riverside Dr
- Eliminate third lane (current right lane) on SB South Lamar between Riverside Dr and Butler Rd
- Add two-way protected bike lanes on both sides of South Lamar between Barton Springs Rd and Riverside Dr
- At-grade bicycle and pedestrian crossing under railroad track at Treadwell St
- New roundabout at Evergreen Ave and West Mary St
- New roundabout at Bluebonnet Ln and Del Cruto Rd
- Replacement of certain stretches of middle "chicken" left turn lane with raised median
- Add queue jumps and new dedicated bus priority lanes through certain intersections
