Event 13 - 18 Aug 2016 (ineffective erosion controls)

Straw wattles, where they do exist, are virtually useless in controling sediment loss and erosion from the site.

Event 12 - 16 Aug 2016 (ineffective erosion controls)

Straw wattles are still just laying on the ground barely serving a purpose and are mostly flattened. Sand in the driveway entrance has been washed away by the rains and down the street into the storm drain. Reported again to the City on August 17.

Event 11 - 14 Aug 2016 (inadequate erosion controls)

Event 10 - 27 Jul 2016 (erosion controls ineffective)

The runoff from the site has eroded the left side of the sand pile from the day before (see Event 9 below) and the sand has gone over and around the straw wattles and down the street into the storm drains. Reported to the City of Austin on July 27.

Event 9 - 26 Jul 2016 (inadequate erosion controls)

Straw wattles are still just laying on the ground and are not in very good shape. Sand has been piled right next to the gutter where is can easily erode. The straw wattles do not even extend around the right edge of the sand pile.

Event 8 - 28 Jun 2016 (inadequate erosion controls)

Still just unsecured straw wattles laying on top of the ground.

Event 7 - 20 Jun 2016 (inadequate erosion controls)

Silt fences have been removed and replaced with straw wattles just laying on the ground unsecured. The city has no standards for straw wattles in the Environmental Criteria Manual, but according to manufacturer, the straw wattles should be placed in a shallow trench and staked.

Event 6 - 27 May 2016 (erosion controls not maintained)

No change since reported to the City on May 22, 2016. The silt fence is not being maintained in accordance with standards in Environmental Criteria Manual.

Event 5 - 20 May 2016 (erosion controls not maintained)

The silt fence has not been maintained. It is sagging and holes in the silt fence are clearly visible in it in a number of places. A straw waddle has been placed at the end of the silt fence but the waddle has not been installed in accordance with typical standards and specifications. It has simply been laid across the ground. Although the City does not have standards and specifications for straw wattles, typical standards for straw wattles by manufacturers and other government regulators call for them to be installed in a shallow trench and staked. The City indicated that they found no issues with this site when they visited on May 5, 2016. It is not clear how the City reached the conclusion that there are no issues at this site. Reported again to the City on May 22, 2016.
